Properties of alloy C276

Alloy C276 is a popular nickel-molybdenum-chromium alloy renowned for its exceptional corrosion resistance in a wide range of aggressive environments. It is part of the nickel alloys, which are known for their superior resistance to corrosion, high-temperature stability, and excellent mechanical properties. Alloy C276 is often used in highly corrosive environments and applications that demand high performance and reliability. When welding Alloy C276, CEWELD Alloy C-276 can be used. This is the most common filler metal used for welding Alloy C276. It matches the chemistry of Alloy C276 and ensures a reliable and corrosion-resistant weld.

Corrosion resistance of Alloy C276

General Corrosion Resistance: Alloy C276 provides outstanding resistance to general corrosion in various environments, including corrosive gases, wet chlorine gas, and strong acids like sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, and acetic acid.

Pitting and Crevice Corrosion Resistance: It exhibits excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, which are localized forms of corrosion that can occur in chloride-containing environments.

Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) Resistance: Alloy C276 offers high resistance to stress corrosion cracking in various aggressive environments, including those containing chlorides.

Oxidation Resistance: It provides good resistance to high-temperature oxidation and maintains its corrosion resistance even at elevated temperatures.

Alkaline Corrosion Resistance: Alloy C276 resists corrosion by alkaline solutions, including sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) and potassium hydroxide.

Sulfide Stress Cracking Resistance: It is highly resistant to sulfide stress cracking, making it suitable for use in oil and gas processing environments where hydrogen sulfide is present.

Alloy C276 is widely used in industries such as chemical processing, pulp and paper, power generation, pollution control, pharmaceuticals, and oil and gas due to its excellent corrosion resistance properties.
